Two Ingredients Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

Here's how to make a fluffy chocolate buttercream frosting with only two ingredients. This frosting can even be made in the microwave !

Do you ever get a craving for chocolate frosting but don't want to wait for butter to soften, or you just can't be bothered to cook egg whites to make swiss meringue buttercream ? Well then, I've got a recipe for you !
This chocolate buttercream frosting is made using only two ingredients : chocolate, and unsalted butter. You can either make it on a double-boiler (bain-marie) or in the microwave. You just have to use the same amount (weight) of chocolate and butter, melt them and stir to combine. Once it's cooled and set, you use a hand- or stand-mixer to beat the frosting until it's all fluffy. And that's it !
The frosting wil get lighter in color as you're whisking it, but it will get darker once it's on the cake or cupcakes. I've shared this recipe before on this Easter cake post, but this chocolate frosting is one I use often, and I thought it deserved its own post, as it's such an easy and delicious fluffy buttercream.

Ingredients :
250g of dark chocolate
250g of unsalted butter

Instructions :
  • Put the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl.
  • If using the microwave : microwave in 45 seconds intervals, stirring in between, until the chocolate and butter have completely melted. Stir to combine.
  • If using a bain-marie : set the bowl over a saucepan of boiling water, and stir until the chocolate and butter have completely melted. Stir to combine.
  • Set aside (at room temperature) to cool completely.
  • Once the frosting has cooled and set, beat on medium speed using a hand- or stand-mixer. The frosting will lighten in color and fluff up
  • Keep in the fridge until ready to use (Beating again on low speed if the frosting isn't soft enough to spread.)
  • Frost your cake or cupcakes.

      1. Hi! As the frosting is made with butter, the cake should be stored in the fridge. I recommend taking it out of the fridge a few minutes before eating to bring it to room temperature. Hope everyone likes the cake!
